Museveni visits Bugobero constituency

President Yoweri Museveni has thanked the people of Bugobero constituency in Manafwa district for voting the Movement government into power which he said has greatly contributed to peace building in Uganda.
Addressing a rally yesterday, Mr. Museveni observed that the people of Bugobero in particular and of Uganda in general, voted wisely especially in 1996 and actually provided a strong foundation for democracy in the country leading to introduction of UPE, USE programmes and consolidation of security, among others.
The President reminded the people of Uganda that peace and security are issues that should not be taken for granted adding that Ugandans should learn to draw strong lessons from the post elections crisis in some countries in the region and desist from playing around with national issues.
Mr. Museveni said that as peace is a scarce commodity, the NRM government has decided to equip and professionalize the army to ensure tranquility. He said that the Movement government is Uganda’s political – social doctor because it has successfully tackled all the ills affecting the country ever since the collapse of the past dictatorial regimes of Obote and Amin.
The President informed the people that he was in their area to awaken them to banish poverty through practicing modern agriculture that entails using improved breeds of fruits, goats, Frisian cows and chicken among others that give higher and better yields.
Mr. Museveni called on the people of Bugobero to emulate Mr. Sam Wakinya of Bududa who rears pigs, cows, and goats, grows bananas, coffee and carries out fish and bee farming that give him high income.
He further advised the people of the area to embrace the Prosperity for All programme and also join SACCOs to access low interest loans that they should put to production activities in the struggle to eradicate household poverty. He assured them that more funds will be injected into SACCOs to meet people’s demands.
The President directed NAADS officials to ensure that all requirements, such as improved breeds and machinery, among others, are in place so that farmers are not frustrated. He cited an example of Mr. Yahaya Muyobo of Nambale village in Manafwa district who is a leading farmer and requires a hatchery and a water pump on his 20 acre farm on which he keeps chicken, grows bananas and Arabica coffee among others.
Mr. Museveni informed the people of Bugobero to take the issue of value addition to their products as an important aspect in the fight against poverty. He assured them that through NAADS, government will ensure that the agro-processing sector takes shape because markets for Ugandan products are available. He said that prosperous countries like Malaysia, Taiwan, China and Japan among others started the same way.
He assured them that government would pay attention to infrastructure development in order to assist people market their products. He said that Bumbobi – Bumbo – Lwakaka road as well as Namagumba road in Budadiri will be worked on. He informed the people that Uganda is capable of constructing its own roads because, unlike in the past, when we depended on donors, money is now available.
President Museveni also took time off and visited farmers such as Rebecca Masolo and pledge support to her to have her project improve. He also opened Bugobero High School library block and unveiled Manafwa District Local government headquarters foundation stone.
